What are spares?

They are tools to fix your harness or vehicle in case of an emergency.

Somewhere on your vehicle.   Some carriages or carts have a little box built in the back.   Some folks use a picnic basket.
What tools do I need for Combined Driving or an Arena Driving Trial?
The American Driving Society recommends:

Suggested Spares at the Training and Preliminary Levels

For Singles and Pairs:
a.  Trace or splice
b.  Rein or splice
c.  Hole punch if using splices
d.  Spare whiffle tree if pair and carriage has no roller bolts


For Teams:
a.  Lead rein or wheel rein
b.  Lead trace or wheel trace
c.  Lead bar or main bar
