Yes YOU can DO IT!
Terrain can be hilly and/or the footing rocky.  Consider whether your equine might benefit from hoof protection or wraps.
Marathon Day - Section "A"
The marathon is essentially a cross-country drive, in two sections with compulsory gates and 3-5 hazards.
The following are essential on the marathon: helmet, whip, gloves, spares.I would also recommend the following: timer, a second whip, some means to display intermediate course times, a safety vest and taped or velcroed traces.  Jeans and t-shirts are frowned upon for marathon.  Khakis and a polo shirt are appreciated.  Rubber soled shoes or boots will help you balance the carriage especially if it rains.
Timing Issues

The marathon is essentially a pace marathon….not a race.

The allowable course time is derived by measuring the course, including the expected path through each hazard, and multiplying the distance by 6 minutes, 40 seconds per kilometer.  One kilometer equals .621 miles.

VSE’s are expected to travel at a speed of 9 kph.   That means a VSE at the correct speed would cover
9k in 60 minutes. To get the time it takes to travel 1k you need to divide 60minute/9 which equals 6.66 (39.6sec.) or basically 6 minutes, 40 seconds per kilometer.
There are course markers at each kilometer point.  At a speed of 9 kph the elapsed time at each kilometer marker would be as follows:

1k = 6   min. 40 seconds
2k = 13 min. 20 seconds
3k = 20 minutes
4k = 26 min. 40 seconds
You are permitted to use a time/watch to gauge your pace throughout the marathon to ensure that you will not arrive at the finish line too late or too early.
Penalties are assessed for finishing under the minimum or over the maximum allowable time specified by the organizer.   You will be assessed .2 penalties for every commenced second over and .1 penalties for every commenced second under the allowable time.
The organizer will have measured the course and computed the minimum/maximum times.  They will be given you in your competitor’s packet.
You must maintain a trot throughout the marathon except within hazards where you may use any gait and from the last hazard or 500m marker, (whichever is shorter) to the end during which you may walk or trot.  You must, however, trot over the finish line.
