| But Can My Mini Do It? |
| By Martha Duchnowski |
| The answer is yes! Most miniature horses should be able to at least do the "Training" level of a Combined Driving Event and many can do all levels of an Arena Driving Trial. |
| The first thing you should do is get a vet check. *click here* for a story of why you should. |
| This is a GREAT sport for the "B" size miniature horses, yet don't discount the smaller ones. This little stallion, only 29" tall, won the "Best Conditioned award" at the "Small but Mighty Driving Trial" at Chadds Ford PA 2003. |
The next step is to SLOWLY condition your mini. *click here* on a step by step approach to conditioning your mini. |
| Don't forget to set up a cones course (milk jugs filled with water work well too) and practice. |
Some people use a round pen to get started, other people use a hot walker. |
| Try and get an instructor to come and help you with dressage training. For now, just work on your transitions. Make them as smooth as possible. In the beginning, don't worry about head carriage. A straight line from the poll to the tail is important as well as having a relaxed mini with forward motion (impulsion). |
